2009 White House Ornament

Once again, we are carrying the White House ornament on behalf of the Tysons Civitan Club. The funds raised support their charitable work in the community, particularly with the developmentally disabled. Our price is $19, including complimentary wrapping so they are all ready to give as gifts.

The 2009 ornament commemorates the second presidency (1893-1897) of Grover Cleveland, the only U.S. president to serve two non-consecutive terms. It illustrates the special place of the Christmas tree in the holiday celebrations of President Cleveland’s young family, and depicts the first White House Christmas tree (seen through the South portico windows) to be illuminated by electric lights. The reverse side of the ornament recreates a scene from the tree-trimming parties of President and Mrs. Cleveland, which were held annually for their children and those of cabinet members.

Industrial Delicacy

Sterling silver meets industrial enamels in these cool, contemporary rings by DAmetals. They're easy to give as gifts or wear on different fingers since the open design can adjust all the way from 5-1/2 up to 8. The color combinations are fun and as you can see look terrific in groups. Expanding on this theme, the line includes interchangeable pendant sets; you get a chain and a set of either 3 or 5 colors of pendants. Brilliant!
Designer and creator Devienna Anggraini, originally from Jakarta, Indonesia, completed her BFA at the University of Oregon and her MFA at the Rhode Island School of Design.

Soothing Sounds

Fountains have a way of calming the spirit. Running water can mask the persistent hum of electronic equipment and humidify the air at the same time. Offices in particular can benefit from all of these positive qualities.

This model is made in the USA: the basin is a hand thrown stoneware bowl which houses the small pump. Vinyl tubing extends through layers of craggy slate and a small urn; water spills out over the rim and makes its trip down the stair step of stone. Approx. 12" diameter $140. A larger version is also available.

Flambeaux Art Pottery

Flambeaux Art Pottery represents the collaboration of friends Bill Campbell and Kent Follette, each of whom is a well known potter in his own right. Crystalline glazes create richly layered surface designs and unexpected color combinations. But don't be fooled into thinking of this as display-only ware; while each piece is a work of art, this is also functional, food-safe pottery.
